Slim Aluminium S.p.A. is a vertically integrated plant with cast house, rolling mills and finishing lines, manufacturing flat rolled aluminium products.

The facility, located in Cisterna di Latina, near Rome, has a maximum capacity of approximately 95,000 tons per year on a total area of 17.5 hectares.

With a market presence of over 50 years, Slim has supplied a large number of market- leading companies with products offering a gauge range of 6 µm to 6 mm in soft as well as hard alloys.

Our cast house has a slab production capacity of 120,000 tons per year, and it includes 2 complete melting/casting lines, each one with a melting furnace, holding furnace, degasser, filtration unit and casting machine. In particular, we have a twin chamber furnace suitable for contaminated scrap remelting, connected to a fume filtration unit, which allows for environmentally friendly aluminium recycling.

In the heavy rolling area there is slab preparation section with scalper and saw, a recently revamped hot mill and a state-of-the-art breakdown mill, equipped with the best technical solutions in terms of flatness and thickness control.

Our foil rolling department comprises 2 wrought foil mills and 1 foil finishing mill, with advanced process control systems that ensure the production of the highest quality aluminium foil.

Cold rolled coils are processed in the finishing area to get both narrow and wide strips and thin and heavy gauge sheets by means of 6 slitters, a tension levelling line and 2 cut to length lines. Foil separators are used to slit liquid packaging foil, converter foil and household foil, while a surface conditioning line is dedicated to coil preparation for cap stock, container foil and capacitor foil. Three punching lines produce circles for the cookware industry.

The necessary intermediate and final annealing treatments are performed by 11 annealing furnaces to reach the requested temper. Metallurgical properties are designed to meet customer requirements in terms of mechanical and forming performance.

A vertical warehouse storage system with a capacity of about 500 coils automatically feeds the breakdown mill and all the other production lines of the plant.
